The Recreation Department oversees the operation of the Youth Flag Football Program for local area children ages 5 to 7. Children who are 7 years old weighing less than 60 pounds are allowed to play Flag Football. The Recreation Department also oversees the operation of the Youth Tackle Football Program for local area youth ages 7 to 14. Each individual is placed on a team determined by weight as well as age. Both programs are designed to introduce local area children to the fundamental principles and skills of football in a fun and safe environment.
The Recreation Department also oversees the operation of the youth cheerleading program for the local area youth ages 5 to 14. The program is designed to teach local area children the fundamental principles and skills of cheerleading in a fun and safe environment. Cheerleaders are broken down into teams based on age and ability. Each age group will cheer for their age-appropriate team.
Each year the Farmville Recreation Department holds a seven-week Summer Camp series for youth ages 5 to 15. Teenagers can participate by serving as a teen counselor with the Rec Department or participating in the Counselor-In-Training Program. Each week has a different theme; themes include hands-on activities, field trips both local and out of town, and educational opportunities.
